Elon Musk acquires controlling stake in Twitter Inc.

The American tech billionaire and investor now have a controlling stake in the world’s fourth-biggest social media company, Twitter. Elon Musk’s latest acquisition is now sparking debate across the tech and political space as he will be influencing decision-making on the company’s policies.

Owning higher shares than the CEO, Musk owns more than 72 million shares of Twitter Inc. as of 22 April, 2022. Consequently, Elon Musk sits on the board of the social media company Twitter.

The company Twitter Inc. legally has given directorship powers to Elon Musk. The tech billionaire with vast interests in cryptocurrency, space travel, and internet infrastructure, also owns several of the most followed accounts associated with his personal brand which has over 1 million followers, and company accounts.

Elon Musk’s appointment to the Twitter company board has sent some members of staff and stakeholders uncertain about the future of the company.

Musk is known for radical progressive innovation and investment in new technology. He preaches liberal ideology, advocates for free speech, is an immigrant who was raised in South Africa, migrated to Canada as a teen, and started his entrepreneurial ventures in the United States which have amassed global success.
