Jimmy Kimmel created a 6 minute fake commercial on Spikevax for his monologue on Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, bringing just the right of attention on the marketing name of Moderna biotech company’s new product.

The comedy piece came after the Massachusetts-based pharmaceutical company finally received official US Food and Drug Administration approval for it’s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, after two years. The company had been failing to have the vaccine approved in the USA inspite being already in use abroad including in Canada, European Union and the UK.

The name Spikevax will be used to market the Moderna vaccine to American adults over 18. Spikevax comes from the way the vaccine works by inducing artificial spikes of protein to which the body responds by producing anti-viral cells that identify and quickly kill COVID-19 virus infection.

The Moderna vaccine is not manufactured using live nor dead virus, and unlike older vaccines. The vaccine is developed with a modern technology MRNA genetic code to create an antibody response the natural immune system. Pfizer (PFE.N)and BioNTech’s COVID-19 shot use similar technology.

In theory the immune system will recognize these protein portions as foreign and learn to and remember how to produce killer-cells to attack the spike. So the advantage is its like using dead virus. This is never before used tech for these purposes. Many worry about a runaway autoimmune reaction. The public is told the vaccines are safe.
